My wife’s a huge fan of Lee Min Ho. When we were still dating, Ho made a 15 minute appearance at Mall of Asia and we went out to see him. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the stage because the crowd in front of us was huge. I ended up lifting her so she could get a glimpse (while almost getting pickpocketed). Big fan.
So she was delighted to see a cardboard cutout of Lee Min Ho in front of the KyoChon at Megamall. KyoChon has been around for a long time, but my wife and I never got around to dining there until today.
We went on a Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m., and the place was packed. There were a few Korean groups scattered around (which we took as a sign that the food was acceptable by Korean standards). The place itself was cozy, with dim yellow lights and lots of customized wood furnishing. This and the random words about food on the wall made it feel like Seoul.
The place is known for it’s fried chicken (Korean/SG style, like Bonchon or 4 fingers). My wife and I weren’t that hungry, so we decided to cut the rice. We ordered the SalSal Wrap, Soonsal Salad, and 5pc chicken wings (original soy // drumette).
The SalSal Wrap (P130) was the first to arrive. It’s a chicken wrap (shawarma wrapper) with lettuce and avocado (even if it’s out of season!). I loved it! My wife enjoyed it as well, but felt it could use a side dressing.
The Soonsal Salad (P190) came next. It’s composed of lettuce, tomatoes, purple cabbage, and a very generous portion of Soonsal Chicken. You get to choose between blueberry or orange dressing (we went with blueberry). Although my wife’s not a big fan of salad (she think it’s generally overpriced), she loved it. Five hours later she’s still telling me she’s craving for it. We loved that it had a lot of chicken as most restaurants are very stingy. We’ll definitely go back for more (as we want to try the orange dressing).
The chicken wingette (5pc for P140) wasn’t that impressive. Bonchon and 4 Fingers are fine substitute if you want sweetened fried chicken. The pieces of chicken were dinky (non-mutant chicken?).
My wife and I are definitely going back for more salad. We also want to try their other foods. But I’d avoid going there on weekends, as the service felt really slow. Other than that, no complaints.
